Today, Thursday 12 April 2018, the Internet Society’s UK England Chapter and the Horizon Digital Economy Research Program at Nottingham University will host a panel Multi-Sided Trust for Multi-Sided Platforms at the British Computer Society in London UK. This discussion brings together representatives from different sectors to discuss the topic of trust on the Internet. In particular the panel will focus on consumer to business trust; how users trust online services that are offered to them. Such services include, but are not limited to, online shopping, social media, online banking and search engines. Speakers: Catherine Miller – Director of Policy at Doteveryone, who have recently published a ‘Digital Attitudes Report‘; Geoff Revill – Founder & Managing Director of Krowdthink Ltd, an SME/platform provider; Kate Green – ISOC 25 Under 25 Awardee doing research on user experience and trust in online health communities; Robin Wilton – Technical Outreach for Identity and Privacy at the Internet Society. Today, Thursday 14 December 2017 the Internet Society and Chatham House will host a panel discussion Do We Still Trust the Internet? in London. Over the past few years, there has been a clear shift towards greater ‘securitization’ of the Internet, where security is less about personal data integrity and network resilience, and more about national security and political control. This is evident through the practice of Internet shutdowns, data localization policies, attacks on the multi-stakeholder model of Internet governance and encryption backdoors. Earlier today, Tuesday July 19 2016, ISOC Trustee Désirée Miloshevic, Senior Public Policy and International Affairs Advisor in Europe for Afilias, presented a webinar The role of trust in digital policy The webinar was a follow-up to her Master’s dissertation at the Diplo Foundation. Ms Miloshevic was joined by Diplo’s Cybersecurity expert Vladimir Radunovic to draw on the findings of her research, and to reflect on ways in which the recent developments have had an impact the issue of trust. Can users’ trust ever be restored? What elements are required, and what role should stakeholders have?
