Today Sep 22 2017, is the 12th annual One Web Day. Founded in 2006 by Susan Crawford One Web Day is a counterpart to Earth Day on April 22, with a focus on celebrating and sustaining a fully connected planet. Every year there is a theme, and the 2017 theme is “Open The Pipes“, in recognition of the need for cheap and accessible backhaul for Community Networks. The highlighted video is a section of Kathy Brown‘s speech atthe Mobile World Congress in Shanghai earlier in the year.
In 2016, the Internet Society launched a project to take stock of the key forces of change that could impact the future of the Internet. A broad section of the Internet community was engaged via multiple surveys, interviews, and roundtables. The full report ‘Paths to our Digital Future‘ was released on September 18 2017.
Following the launch, in a global online meetup – InterCommunity 2017 – speaking from regional interactive online nodes, individuals were able to comment on the report’s findings. In NYC, Eli Noam – director of theColumbia Institute for Tele-Information (CITI) was one of those lending their thoughts. Video is below.

ION Conferences bring network engineers and leading industry experts together to discuss emerging technologies and hot technology topics. Early adopters provide valuable insight into their own deployment experiences and bring participants up to speed on new standards emerging from the IETF. There will be a full-day program covering topics including IPv6, DNSSEC, Securing BGP, and TLS for Applications. The event will be webcast live on the Internet Society Livestream Channel.
