On July 16 2016 U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Angus King (I-Maine), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) and John Boozman (R-Ark.) joined together to launch and co-chair a new Senate Broadband Caucus, with the purpose of working to improve connectivity in rural America. The launch was streamed live on YouTube.
Today Thursday, 18 August 2016 the 2016 Ghana Internet Governance Forum(IGF) takes place at the the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in IT in Accra. This year’s event has the the theme Building a StrongMulti-Stakeholder Model for a Sustainable Development of the Internet in Ghana. The Forum will discuss key issues on Internet governance in Ghana, such as cyber security, affordable access, critical internet infrastructure, data protection and openness, child safety and many other topical issues. Ghana’s position on key issues from the Ghana IGF will be articulated at the Global IGF which will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico from 6-9 December 2016. The GhanaIGF has two tracks both of which will be webcast live via YouTube, and remote participation will be available via Webex. Ghana is in the WAT time zone, same as UTC, 4 hours ahead of NYC.

This week, Wednesday-Friday August 10-12 2016 the 12th Caribbean Internet Governance Forum (CIGF) is taking place in Belize. Organized by the Caribbean Telecomunications Union, this year’s CIGF has the them ‘Accelerating Caribbean Internet Development‘. It will address areas of high priority, including Cybersecurity, CcTLD Operations, Local Digital Content Development, Broadband Access and Affordability, and Net Neutrality. It will focus on establishing national structures to support the work of the CIGF; continue the work of policy development and finalise the Regional Internet Governance Policy Framework (Issue 3.0). The event is being webcast live via the Internet Society Livestream Channel. Belize time runs two hours behind NYC.
