On Wednesday, October 10, 2012, the Center for Technology Innovation at Brookings presented Fostering Internet Competition in Washington DC. The event explored policies to maintain Internet competition. A panel of experts discussed policy recommendations that encourage innovation without stifling competition. The panel comprised Susan Crawford, Douglas Rushkoff, and antitrust expert Spencer Waller. The event was webcast live, and the video can be seen below.
The FCC Open Internet Advisory Committee will meet today October 9, 2012 from 10am-Noon at Harvard Law School. The Committee will consider issues relating to the subject areas of its four working groups—Mobile Broadband, Economic Impacts of Open Internet Frameworks, Specialized Services, and Transparency—as well as other open Internet related issues. A limited amount of time will be available on the agenda for comments from the public. There will be a live webcast.

Today October 8 2012 the Internet Society (ISOC) will host INET Curaçao. Curaçao is in the Antilles – Caribbean islands just off the coast of Venezuela. This is a full day conference that will cover many aspects of the Internet including policy, security, and development. On Tuesday October 9 2012, a follow up IPv6 Launch Day event will fully explore the road forward with regard to addressing. Both events will be webcast live on the Internet Society Chapters Channel. The India Internet Governance Conference (IIGC) took place in New Delhi from October 4-5 2012. It was presented and hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) with whom the Internet Society recently signed a cooperation agreement. The IIGC agenda covered a wide range of Internet issues, including the multi-stakeholder model for Internet governance, International Telecommunication Regulations and Internet governance, national priorities for broadband access, cyber security and privacy, Internet Protocol v6 (IPv6), and the Internet’s role in social and economic development, in up to 3 simultaneous sessions. Some sessions were relayed on the Internet Society Chapters Webcast Channel and are archived below. It’s possible more clips will appear on the FICCI YouTube channel.
The International Summit for Community Wireless Networks (IS4CWN) is underway in Barcelona on. October 4-7 2012. The IS4CWN has spawned projects such as the Commotion Wireless Project (also known as the “Internet-in-a-Suitcase”) and CONFINE. With a strong focus on social justice and human rights, IS4CWN 2012 brings together participants not just from these projects in the US and the EU but panelists from the developing world who are interested in building and expanding community wireless networks in their own countries.
