  The UK government’s recent demand for Apple to create a backdoor in its end-to-end encrypted cloud services raises alarming concerns for online safety, privacy, and cybersecurity. This panel discussion will explore the global implications of this move, particularly how it could set a dangerous precedent for weakening encryption and jeopardizing online safety for individuals, businesses, and civil society.

  WEBCAST MAR 13 – The Future of Online Safety for Kids: Legislative Changes on the Horizon 

  On Thursday, March 13 2025 at 12:00-13:00 EDT (16:00-17:00 UTC) the Internet Education Foundation will host a Congressional Internet Caucus Academy panel ‘The Future of Online Safety for Kids: Legislative Changes on the Horizon‘ at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington DC.

  Despite multiple attempts over the last several sessions, Congress has been unable to enact legislation aimed at protecting children online. What does the future look like for KOSA, COPPA 2.0, and KOSMA? What other ideas are being looked to to protect kids online? Experts will examine current legislative proposals, their potential to reshape privacy, platform accountability, and digital safety, and the future trajectory of online protections for kids.

  WEBCAST SEP 2 – Internet Society Online Safety SIG webinar – Strengthening Online Safety: Encryption, Advocacy, and Global Security Practices 

  On 22 August 2024, the Internet Society Online Safety Special Interest Group (ISOC Online Safety SIG ) hosted a webinar ‘Strengthening Online Safety: Encryption, Advocacy, and Global Security Practices‘. The Online Safety SIG focuses on key areas such as research, training, and professional growth. Topics of interest include encryption, child safety online, cybersecurity awareness, and digital identity and privacy. In this workshop, cybersecurity expert Nicolas Fiumarelli, shared his extensive knowledge on the role of encryption, and provided practical insights into its implementation within the broader online safety landscape. He also discussed global advocacy efforts on its behalf.

  ISOC LIVE will webcast an English captioned edit of the session at 16:00 UTC on Monday September 2 2024.
