  WEBCAST JAN 24 – A11yNYC – Automatic Captions: Our Experiments and Best Practices – Thomas Logan & Meryl Evans 

  On Tuesday January 24 2023 at 7:30pm-8:30pm EST (00:30-01:30 UTC Jan 25) the Accessibility NYC Meetup (A11yNYC) hosts a meetup ‘Automatic Captions: Our Experiments and Best Practices‘. Presenters Thomas Logan & Meryl Evans will share real data and lessons learned from a variety of artificial intelligence (AI) platforms to determine which one provides the most accurate results. They will also highlight the latest tools available from a variety of AI technologies working in this space.

  VIDEO: #FCC Network Resiliency Workshop Feb 6 at Brooklyn Law School 

  On Wednesday February 6 2013 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) held a Workshop on Network Resiliency at Brooklyn Law School. Organized by Henning Schulzrinne, the FCC’s Chief Technical Officer, the workshop focused on the lessons learned from both 9-11 and Superstorm Sandy. It was a full day event. The venue, Brooklyn Law’s Forchelli Center, afforded sweeping views of New York Harbor, which brought an added piquancy to the proceeding.  The event was webcast via the Internet Society Chapters Webcasting Channel with real-time captioning.

    Will it be captioned in real time? I hope so because FCC is a federal agency and has to follow its own law to make media captioned.

      I have already enquired, and am awaiting confirmation. On other events I have seen they just have ASL in the room.

        It’s good to provide ASL services for events, but they do not benefit 98% of deaf and hard of hearing people who don’t sign.

    There are two more area FCC hearings the day before, specifically.on the effects of Sandy. One is in the morning at Bowling Green, and the other in the afternoon in Hoboken. They will be webcast. Details: http://www.fcc.gov/events/superstorm-sandy-field-hearing

  Last May ISOC-NY sponsored the live webcast of the Freedom-to-Connect 2012 Conference (F2C2012) via the Internet Society Chapters webcasting channel. One of the keynote speakers was Aaron Swartz, who tragically died last week. Since then the archived video of his speech has been viewed over 300k times It headed Cory Doctorow’s obituary on Boing Boing, and yesterday, Monday January 14 2012, it ran in full on the Democracy Now! tv show. Thanks to the folks at Democracy Now!, we now also have a full transcript, and thus have been able to add captions to the original. A Spanish translation is underway at AMARA, needs help.
