isoc liveOn Tuesday June 7 2022 at 13:00-14:00 UTC the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) Communication Policy & Technology Section presents a webinar ‘Concealing for Freedom‘. Authors Francesca Musiani and Ksenia Ermoshina will launch their new book ‘Concealing for Freedom: The Making of Encryption, Secure Messaging and Digital Liberties‘ (Mattering Press), the first in-depth sociological inquiry in the field of secure communication. Current debates around encryption have fundamental implications for our individual liberties and collective presence on the Internet, while the cryptography community has renewed its efforts to create next-generation secure messaging protocols and applications. The webinar will show how these tools differ in their intended technical architectures, their targeted user publics, and the underlying values and business models.
