International Internet Preservation Consortium #archiving the #web world wide @ndiipp
The International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) was formed in 2003 to foster international collaboration for preserving Internet content for future generations. It has now grown to include 40 of the leading libraries worldwide, plus the Internet Archive, representing 25 major archives. A recent OII report notes that, as the web becomes more complex, and activity devolves into social media networks, archiving is an increasingly complex business. See, for example, a presentation from the Library of Alexandria about archiving the recent Egyptian uprising. Also, as another recent presentation by Helen Hockx-Yu of the British Library notes, there is often a need for changes in national legislation to permit “legal deposit” of web content.
