On 9 July 2026, GNKS Consult and the Marconi Society Internet Resilience Institute hosted ‘Operationalizing Digital Resilience: Implementing WSIS+20 and the Global Digital Compact Across Critical Infrastructure‘ at the WSIS Forum 2026 in Geneva.

The session explored how Internet resilience can help translate WSIS+20 (World Summit on the Information Society +20 Review) commitments and Global Digital Compact (GDC) objectives into practical implementation. Recent disruptions — cloud outages, power failures, supply-chain vulnerabilities, and cyber incidents — have shown that digital resilience is not solely a technical issue, depending instead on a complex ecosystem of networks, domain name systems, routing infrastructure, cloud services, energy systems, and governance arrangements. Building on the work of the Marconi Society Internet Resilience Institute, the session presented practical approaches including the Life of a Packet dependency-mapping initiative and the Business Resilience Guide, with attention to cross-sector cooperation, learning from incidents, stress-testing critical systems, and strengthening trust in digital services.

On Thursday, 21 May 2026, at 12:00-13:00 EDT (16:00-17:00 UTC), the Marconi Society will host a webinar ‘Wi-Fi as Critical Infrastructure for Internet Resilience‘.

As the Internet has evolved into an essential infrastructure, Wi-Fi has become a foundational access technology, carrying a significant share of end-user traffic across homes, enterprises, and public spaces. In combination with cable, cellular, satellite, and other access technologies, Wi-Fi enhances network resilience, capacity, and user experience – particularly in indoor environments where the majority of data consumption occurs. Advances in spectrum availability, including the 6 GHz band, are further enabling next-generation Wi-Fi capabilities through wider channels, lower latency, and improved efficiency.

This webinar will explore Wi-Fi’s central role in delivering high-performance, reliable connectivity, including performance under load for time-critical applications such as telehealth, immersive conferencing, and industrial automation. Speakers will also examine how Wi-Fi complements licensed networks, highlighting the interplay between licensed and unlicensed spectrum in supporting overall connectivity needs. The discussion will consider how diverse spectrum resources contribute to scalability, innovation, and resilience in both everyday usage and high-demand or emergency scenarios.

Maine faces a perfect storm of challenges in achieving digital equity. Maine’s remote and rugged terrain makes the state one of the most complex and expensive to reach with digital infrastructure. As the state with the oldest population, many in Maine are not digital natives. Maine’s median household and per capita income lag far behind most other states. A majority of Mainers live in small, rural communities with limited resources. These forces combine to shape the challenging contours of the digital divide in Maine.

With the passage of the IIJA, the State created the Maine Connectivity Authority as a quasi-governmental entity to drive a proactive and nimble approach to achieve universal connectivity. The Maine Connectivity Authority will share our unique approach, focused on Projects, Places, and People and now layering in the values of urgency, universality, and digital equity.

This webinar is part of a series of Marconi Society State case study virtual workshops.

YouTubeOn Monday September 26 2022 at 3-4:15pm EDT (19:00-20:15 UTC) the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society and the National Broadband Mapping Coalition host a panel ‘From the Ground Up: Broadband Mapping By and For Communities‘. United States communities and states are collecting data on local broadband availability as the Federal Communications Commission rolls out the Broadband Data Collection (BDC) program. BDC data will be used to determine the allocation and distribution of funding to states under the $42.5 billion Broadband Access Equity and Deployment (BEAD) program. Panelists will discuss these community data collection and mapping efforts, highlighting promising approaches for collaboration and best practices for speed test surveys. We will also discuss how states and communities can be best prepared for the challenge process to ensure they have access to the federal funds they need to address broadband availability.

In the morning two panels, split by a keynote from FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel, will consider how technology can and will revolutionize wireless spectrum usage. After lunch the sustenance of the Open Internet topic will be tackled. Speakers include 2014 Marconi Prize Winner Arogyaswami Paulraj of Stanford University, and Marconi Fellows Vint Cerf, Marty Cooper, John Cioffi, Robert Kahn, Leonard Kleinrock, and Robert Lucky. The event will be webcast live on the Internet Society livestream channel.
