El miércoles 23 de septiembre de 2026 a las 11:00 VET (15:00 UTC), Internet Society Capítulo Venezuela (ISOC VE) presenta el seminario web ‘El Futuro y la Resiliencia de nuestro Internet‘ sobre los desafíos de la infraestructura crítica: un debate con los autores del estudio del Centro de Estudios de Telecomunicaciones de América Latina (cet.la) sobre el robo de cables y vandalismo de infraestructura de telecomunicaciones en América Latina, Luis Mauricio Torres Alcocer y Carlos David Carrasco Muro.

¿Qué tan fuerte es la cadena invisible que sostiene todo nuestro mundo digital en América Latina? Según el estudio:

  • El 63% de los operadores en 14 países percibe un aumento del vandalismo y el robo.
  • El 85% de los incidentes es obra del crimen organizado vinculado al tráfico de metales.
  • El 58% de las empresas reporta un impacto directo en los usuarios, con cortes promedio de 3 a 12 horas por evento.

Soluciones propuestas:

  • Migración a fibra óptica (FTTH).
  • Puntos de Intercambio de Tráfico (IXP), incluido el desarrollo de IXP Venezuela.
  • Gobernanza multiactor: coordinación entre operadores, marcos legales actualizados y denuncia comunitaria.

On Friday, 4 September 2026, at 12:00–13:00 UTC, the IGF Policy Network on Cybersecurity and Resilience (PNCR) holds its ‘First Public Call‘ to start coordinating its 2026 activities. Two goals are set for the call: brief updates from participants, and finalising a draft workplan for the year.

The PNCR builds on the IGF Best Practice Forums on Cybersecurity and on Securing Internet Access & Core Resources in Conflict and Crises, carrying that work forward into a single Policy Network for the IGF 2026 cycle, with focus areas spanning protection of civilian Internet access during conflicts and crises, the resilience of core Internet infrastructure and operations, alignment with human rights and international humanitarian law, and effective multistakeholder response. The call is open to all stakeholders.

On 9 July 2026, GNKS Consult and the Marconi Society Internet Resilience Institute hosted ‘Operationalizing Digital Resilience: Implementing WSIS+20 and the Global Digital Compact Across Critical Infrastructure‘ at the WSIS Forum 2026 in Geneva.

The session explored how Internet resilience can help translate WSIS+20 (World Summit on the Information Society +20 Review) commitments and Global Digital Compact (GDC) objectives into practical implementation. Recent disruptions — cloud outages, power failures, supply-chain vulnerabilities, and cyber incidents — have shown that digital resilience is not solely a technical issue, depending instead on a complex ecosystem of networks, domain name systems, routing infrastructure, cloud services, energy systems, and governance arrangements. Building on the work of the Marconi Society Internet Resilience Institute, the session presented practical approaches including the Life of a Packet dependency-mapping initiative and the Business Resilience Guide, with attention to cross-sector cooperation, learning from incidents, stress-testing critical systems, and strengthening trust in digital services.

El 25 de junio de 2026, el Capítulo de Internet Society Puerto Rico organizó el seminario web ‘Resiliencia de Internet ante conflictos y desastres‘.

Internet es hoy una infraestructura crítica para la vida humana. Ante desastres naturales, crisis climáticas y conflictos armados, la continuidad de la conectividad puede marcar la diferencia entre la vida y la muerte. En este seminario web se exploraron los principios y estándares que Internet Society promueve para garantizar que las redes permanezcan operativas, seguras y accesibles cuando más se necesiten.

El Dr. Gilberto Crespo exploró los tres pilares de la resiliencia de Internet según Internet Society: infraestructura robusta, preparación y recuperación ante desastres, y capacidad comunitaria para sostener la conectividad.

This event, held online on October 9 2025, focused on the role of the internet in Emergency preparedness and Emergency Response, and featured conversations with, and skill-shares from, members of Internet Society chapters across North America and our partner organizations. With recent increases in severe weather events or natural disasters such as wildfires, storms, floods, droughts, earthquakes, wars and mass-casualty events, it was an opportunity to discuss the role that the Internet plays in such events, and learn ways technology can be leveraged to improve outcomes.

At the Internet Society, we believe that the Internet is for everyone. Our work centers on increasing the Internet’s reach, reliability and resilience, as well as ensuring that the Internet remains open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy. In Africa, ISOC has been carrying out and supporting many activities to help grow the Internet in Africa including supporting Community Networks, Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), increasing technical capacity and building communities of practice.

In addition, identifying areas to improve Internet resiliency via measurements has been carried out with the data publicly available on ISOC’s Pulse platform . Internet Resilience measurements have given a glimpse on areas whose improvement would improve the reliability of Internet connectivity in Africa. Could a framework document around improving resilience help regulators in providing an environment that supports the growth of a resilient Internet at national level? Join this lightning talk that will discuss the approach to an Internet Resilience framework document that ISOC is helping to develop for regulators that could help improve Internet access in the region
