On Thursday, 21 May 2026, at 12:00-13:00 EDT (16:00-17:00 UTC), the Marconi Society will host a webinar ‘Wi-Fi as Critical Infrastructure for Internet Resilience‘.

As the Internet has evolved into an essential infrastructure, Wi-Fi has become a foundational access technology, carrying a significant share of end-user traffic across homes, enterprises, and public spaces. In combination with cable, cellular, satellite, and other access technologies, Wi-Fi enhances network resilience, capacity, and user experience – particularly in indoor environments where the majority of data consumption occurs. Advances in spectrum availability, including the 6 GHz band, are further enabling next-generation Wi-Fi capabilities through wider channels, lower latency, and improved efficiency.

This webinar will explore Wi-Fi’s central role in delivering high-performance, reliable connectivity, including performance under load for time-critical applications such as telehealth, immersive conferencing, and industrial automation. Speakers will also examine how Wi-Fi complements licensed networks, highlighting the interplay between licensed and unlicensed spectrum in supporting overall connectivity needs. The discussion will consider how diverse spectrum resources contribute to scalability, innovation, and resilience in both everyday usage and high-demand or emergency scenarios.

Starbucks announces free WiFi from July 1

Mashable reports that Starbucks will offer free Wi-Fi at its stores nationwide starting July 1 via AT&T.

The story notes:

Starbucks joins an increasing list of brands and chains to offer free Wi-Fi in its stores. For example, last December, McDonald’s rolled out free Wi-Fi to nearly all of its restaurants across the country. Panera Bread also offers a similar program.

the company is also planning on rolling out a new Starbucks Digital Network in partnership with Yahoo later this fall. This network, which will only be accessible in U.S. company-operated stores, will offers customers free and unrestricted access to paid sites and services like WSJ.com and other content providers on their phones, tablets or laptops.
