Indigenous Connectivity Institute (ICI) has announced the 10th annual Indigenous Connectivity Summit (ICS) will be held in the historic community of Wendake, Quebec, of the Wendat Nation, from Tuesday – Thursday, 17–19 November 2026!

In addition to being the 10th anniversary — 10 years! — this will be the first event the ICI has held in a Francophone community, as well as in ‘la belle province’ of Quebec. Expect the event to be fully bilingual.

The ICS is the primary convening for First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities to build a digital future on their own terms. It continues to bridge the digital divide by nurturing our continent-wide network of advocates, youth leadership, policy buffs, connectivity champions, community organizers and industry experts through the Summit.

L’Indigenous Connectivity Institute (ICI) a annoncé que le 10^e Indigenous Connectivity Summit (ICS) annuel se tiendra dans la communauté historique de Wendake, au Québec, de la Nation huronne-wendat, du mardi au jeudi 17–19 novembre 2026 !

On April 15 2026, the Natural History Museum hosted a virtual roundtable ‘The Data Center Frontier‘.

The session brought together Indigenous land defenders, scholar-activists, and grassroots organizers to examine how the rapid expansion of AI and cloud infrastructure is driving new waves of fossil fuel dependence, mineral extraction, land dispossession, and environmental injustice. Far from the immaterial “cloud” promised by Silicon Valley, data centers are vast, resource-intensive industrial facilities whose growth is reshaping landscapes, energy systems, and political struggles across North America.

Drawing lessons from Indigenous-led fights against pipelines, mining projects, and other forms of extractive infrastructure—as well as successful campaigns to block data centers—speakers shared insights from the frontlines of the data center frontier and explore how movements across sites and issues can build durable solidarities in the face of a rapidly expanding digital-industrial regime.

On 24 to 28 October 2022 the Indigenous Connectivity Institute will host the Indigenous Connectivity Summit 2022 (ICS 2022). The Indigenous Connectivity Summit brings together Indigenous community members, leaders, network operators, researchers and policymakers with a common goal: to connect Indigenous communities to fast, affordable and sustainable internet. The 2022 ICS is led by the newly-formed Indigenous Connectivity Institute, an initiative incubated by Connect Humanity, and co-organized in partnership with the Internet Society.

WEBCAST WED: 2021 Indigenous Connectivity Summit Policy Recommendations Launch Webinar

On Wednesday December 1 2021 at 14:00 EST (19:00 UTC) the Internet Society will host a webinar to formally release the 2021 Indigenous Connectivity Summit (ICS) Policy Recommendations. This release event will provide an overview of the Policy Recommendations and the impact that they can have on the state of connectivity in Indigenous communities in the US and Canada. The conversation will be led by members of the ICS community.

The Recommendations were the culmination of six weeks of trainings on the role of policy and advocacy in the current connectivity environment. Participants — which included over 80 individuals from the US and Canada, most of whom are members of Indigenous communities —used the dialogue over these trainings to collaboratively develop a set of recommendations that aim to support Indigenous Communities in providing their own connectivity solutions. On the final day of the 2021 ICS, participants reviewed, contributed to, and ultimately adopted these recommendations as an official output of the summit. The Policy Recommendations build on previous documents in 2019 and 2020.
