livestreamRE: Infrastructures is a 3-day conference in Toronto,, from September20-23 2019, exploring the collective care and maintenance of alternative networking practices—new protocols, peer-to-peer connections, offline-first computing, and community-based governance.

How can these emerging Infrastructures of Repair provide spaces to imagine radically different futures, resist easy co-option by the forces of late-stage capitalism, and work in solidarity as plural networks seeking emancipatory change? To answer this we draw on insights from organizers, technologists, artists, and scholars to ensure the focus is not only on the technical aspects of infrastructure, but also the social and cultural. Their diverse perspectives suggest ways we can make space for livelihoods, solidarity, and survival; draw on history and place to bring our fullest imaginations to this moment; and open ways to think these questions together as we build transitional forms. The event will be simulcast on the Internet Society Livestream Channel.

ISOCIn November 2017 the Internet Society released a policy paper brief Spectrum Approaches for Community Networks. In May 2018 another brief Unleashing Community Networks: Innovative Licensing Approaches was published. Earlier in August the preview of a full paper Innovations in Spectrum Management was released. On Monday August 27 2018 at Noon EDT (16:00 UTC) the Internet Society Latin America & Caribbean Bureau will present a webinar to explore the details of this paper. This webinar is a follow up to the Community Networks Workshop at the recent CANTO Conference in Panama City.
