On Wednesday, May 6 at 12:00 EDT (15:00 UTC) Columbia Global Reports hosted a book talk webinar ‘The Fragile Undersea Cables that Power Our World ‘. In the book ‘The Web Beneath the Waves‘, author Samanth Subramanian travels from remote Pacific islands to secretive cable-laying operations to reveal the world, and vulnerabilities, of the Internet’s undersea infrastructure.

On Friday November 21, 2025, at 10:00-11:30 EST (15:00-16:30 UTC) the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Chair on India and Emerging Asia Economics , Project on Prosperity and Development hosts a hybrid event ‘Redundancy, Resiliency, and Repair: Securing Subsea Cable Infrastructure‘in Washington DC. Subsea fiber-optic cables are critical infrastructure that underpin global communications and digital transactions. With the AI revolution, increased digital connectivity, and growing threats to underwater infrastructure, the resiliency and integrity of cables is more important than ever. Following a series of case studies earlier in the year  – Ireland |Japan | Singapore | Egypt – CSIS is promising a comprehensive report that analyzes the global subsea cable ecosystem, along with its main threats.

ISOC LIVELe jeudi 11 avril 2024, le chapitre de Burkina Faso de l’Internet Society, en collaboration avec les chapitres du Bénin, du Cameroun, de la Côte d’Ivoire, de la Guinée, du Niger et du Togo, organise un webinaire « Récente Panne des Câbles sous-marins et Résilience de l’Internet en Afrique ».

Le 14 mars 2024, de nombreux pays africains ont connu des coupures d’Internet suite à la défaillance de plusieurs câbles sous-marins desservant le continent. Bien que la cause de ces défaillances ne soit pas encore claire, l’impact négatif sur les utilisateurs de l’internet et l’économie est évident.

Ce webinaire va discuter des conséquences négatives de cette défaillance et les mesures à prendre pour améliorer la résilience de l’Internet dans les pays francophones affectés.
