LivestreamOn Thursday 25 January 2018 the Internet Society New Mexico Chapter will hold its first ever chapter meeting at the Santa Fe Indian School. Following up on last November’s Indigenous Connectivity Summit, this event will begin with a panel discussion among key players in New Mexico’s growing DIY Internet movement, and will include representatives from the Middle Rio Grande Pueblo Tribal Consortium (comprising the Cochiti, San Felipe, Santa Ana and Santo Domingo Pueblos), the Navajo Nation, and the Laguna Pueblo, among others. These pueblos are breaking new ground in tribal Internet networking, and in doing so, leading the charge in advancing network connectivity throughout the state. They will be talking about what they are doing, how they’re doing it, and sharing insights and best practices. The event will be webcast live on the Internet Society Livestream Channel, YouTube, and Facebook. Santa Fe is UTC-7 = 2 hours behind NYC.

ISOC-NY is pleased to be the fiscal sponsor of NYC Mesh, a fast-growing Community Network that is providing an open alternative to traditional ISPs in NYC. It is driven by a mostly youthful cadre of keen hacktivists, who are learning as they go. It has been said that if we don’t remember our mistakes we are condemned to repeat them. With that in mind, and also to celebrate their successes, we have invited some pioneers of NYC community networks to visit and share their accumulated wisdom. LivestreamToday Friday June 17 2015 netCommons and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia aka BarcelonaTech are hosting Workshop on community networking infrastructures with the theme Efficient collaboration between government, citizens and enterprises. The workshop will discuss how they can strengthen ties among these three actors to optimize a specific case of these infrastructures, community networks, with a particular focus on fiber deployment. Sessions will cover 1) governance, 2) regulation, and 3) implementation. The conference has two main objectives: expand knowledge about this type of collaboration and identify specific lines of action to make them more efficient in the future. The event, conducted in English, Catalan, and Spanish, is being streamed live on guifi tv, and mirrored on the Internet Society Livestream Channel.

Topics under consideration are Community Broadband – the Commission will “consider a Memorandum Opinion and Order addressing petitions filed by two municipal broadband providers asking that the Commission preempt provisions of state laws in North Carolina and Tennessee that restrict the abilities of communities to provide broadband service”: and Protecting and Promoting the Open Internet –  the Commission will “consider a Report and Order on Remand, Declaratory Ruling, and Order that responds to the Verizon court remand and adopts strong open Internet rules, grounded in multiple sources of the Commission’s legal authority, to ensure that Americans reap the economic, social, and civic benefits of an open Internet today and into the future”. The meeting will be webcast live.
