LivestreamOn Friday May 5 2017 the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) Tech and Policy Initiative will host the 2017 Global Digital Futures Policy Forum. The event, now in it’s 3rd year, will have the theme ‘A Fragmented Internet?’ Topics include industrial vs commercial uses of the internet, digital trade, trust and assurance, global platforms and international development, conflict and democracy and financial systemic risks. Speakers include: Eric Schmidt (Alphabet Inc.), Laura DeNardis (American University), Andrea Glorioso (EU Delegation to the US), Eli Noam (Columbia Business School), and Paul Twomey (ArgoPacific, Former ICANN CEO). SIPA WSIS+10On Friday October 30 2015 Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs will present a lunchtime panel The High Politics of Internet Governance: Global Policy Conflicts a Decade after the World Summit on the Information Society. On December 15-16 in New York, the United Nations is convening a General Assembly High-Level Meeting to review the goals of the World Summit on the Information Society after a decade (WSIS+10) and to craft a future vision for the information society. Input from various stakeholders has raised questions about the future of the Internet and who will run it. This Columbia SIPA panel will explain the implications of this dialog for Internet sustainability, security, and freedom, and how this high-level discussion connects to the planned transition of U.S. oversight in Internet governance. Moderator: Merit Janow, Dean, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), Columbia University. SIPA_GCIG_ConferenceOn Thursday May 14 and Friday May 15 2015 the  Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs(SIPA) and the Global Commission on Internet Governance (GCIG) presented the Conference on Internet Governance and Cyber-Security at Columbia University in NYC. Over 40 speakers – including Vint Cerf, Kathy Brown, Fadi Chehadé, Larry Strickling, David Gross, Leslie Daigle, Rebecca Mackinnon, Konstantinos Komaitis, Michael Nelson, and Laura DeNardis, discussed the most pressing policy issues in the worlds of internet governance and cyber-security including privacy, security, innovation, international trade and cross border data flows, data protectionism, human rights, freedom of expression and more. The conference was webcast live via a joint effort of the Internet Society and the SIPA IT Department. Video is below.
