On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, at 12:30-14:00 EDT (16:30-18:00 UTC), Folk Tech will host a webinar ‘Folk Tech Connection Call – July 2026 – With Tibet Sprague!‘, featuring an interview with Tibet Sprague on his work building a community platform at Hylo, working in collective at Terran, and convening technologists at the Collaborative Technology Alliance (CTA).

Folk Tech describes itself as a solidarity-based movement among designers, developers, and people in communities who want digital technology that supports their daily life and interdependence without the extraction, exploitation, or surveillance found in most proprietary technology today. The call also includes space for attendee shareouts on projects, and an optional 30-minute small-group hangout after the first hour.

On Wednesday, May 20 2026 at 12:30-14:00 EDT (16:30-18:00 UTC) Folktech will join with Protopian Prize to host a Storytelling Workshop.

The Protopian Prize is a fiction contest that asks what we can envision as people working toward liberatory futures, meeting obstacles, and making real change. “Protopian”—a word coined by Kevin Kelly, one of the contest’s judges—means an achievable, optimistic future characterized by continuous, incremental progress rather than revolutionary leaps or a static, perfect state. Protopian stories imagine a future that is neither flawless nor catastrophic, but instead workably better than today. It’s about plausible progress rather than perfection or collapse.

In this event, via collaborative stories and exploring different modes of storytelling, a world will be imagined as it might be if Folk Tech principles infused digital technology, supporting daily life and interdependence without the extraction, exploitation, or surveillance found in most proprietary technology today
