VIDEO 24 JUN 2026 – FGV – Cooperative Digital Sovereignty and Artificial Intelligence

On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at 10:00-12:30 BRT (13:00-15:00 UTC), the Digital Cooperation Organization and FGV Direito Rio (Fundação Getúlio Vargas, Rio de Janeiro Law School) jointly hosted a webinar ‘Cooperative Digital Sovereignty and Artificial Intelligence‘.

This webinar presented the preliminary findings of the upcoming DCO study on ‘Cooperative Digital Sovereignty and Artificial Intelligence‘ – that will be launched at CPDP LatAm on 13 August – and discussed concrete building blocks for fostering autonomy in digital infrastructures and AI value chains, without undermining data flows, innovation networks, or international partnerships. Participants were invited to reflect on how cooperative approaches to digital sovereignty can support trustworthy AI, secure data flows, inclusive digital development, and a more balanced global digital order.

It examines specific case studies, such as the Brazilian Pix and the Indian UPI, exploring how countries design payment systems that balance state control with openness, enabling innovation while safeguarding public interest. Particular attention is given to cross-border interoperability, including emerging solutions such as the Interledger Protocol and multi-CBDC bridges, and to governance frameworks that ensure data protection, cybersecurity, and user rights. Bringing together policy, technical, and legal perspectives, the session provides practical insights into building inclusive, secure, and globally connected payment infrastructures.

WEBCAST APR 16 – Digital Transformation and Meaningful Connectivity in the BRICS

On Wednesday April 16, 2025, at 10:00-12:00 BRT (13:00-15:00 UTC) the Center for Technology and Society at FGV (CTS-FGV), the Brazilian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Brazilian Ministry for Communications, Cetic.br, and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), will jointly organize a webinar entitled ‘Digital Transformation and Meaningful Connectivity in the BRICS‘. The webinar part of a series of webinars dedicated to Digital Policies in the BRICS, to stimulate multistakeholder debates on key digital issues in preparation for the BRICS Summit, to be held under the Brazilian Presidency in July.

The goal of the webinar is to provide an understanding of i) what is the relationship between meaningful connectivity and digital transformation, ii) and what success stories or failures can be learned from the BRICS experiences, in order to better inform other countries’ approaches to digital transformation, especially in the Global South.
