On 11 May 2026, the Congressional Internet Caucus Academy hosted a briefing ‘Spectrum Showdown in Shanghai: What the UN’s World Radiocommunication Conference Means for U.S. Competitiveness and the Future of Wi-Fi‘ in Washington DC. Following House and Senate hearings in March laid the foundation for preparations for the UN’s World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) in China, former senior U.S. telecom and spectrum officials examined the growing geopolitical fight over global spectrum policy, the future of the 6 GHz band, and what the WRC could mean for Wi-Fi, wireless competition, and U.S. technology leadership.
