livestreamOn Sunday January 2 2022, in the eighth installment of the Internet Society Livestreaming‘s ‘12 Days of Streams‘ annual highlights, features a ‘Talking Tech: Girls and Women in ICT‘ conversation between Sophie Patrick, of Marymount School of New York, and Rinalia Abdul Rahim, Senior Vice President, Strategy, Communications and Engagement, Internet Society.

The Talking Tech intergenerational interview series supports the Girls in ICT Day initiative and the EQUALS Global Partnership. Run by ITU with the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC) and the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, it enables aspiring ICT professionals to interview and be interviewed by role models who are leaders in their field.

Jane Coffin, former Senior Vice President of the Internet Society for Internet Growth, talks about her experiences working towards closing the digital divide through Community Networks and Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), fostering infrastructure and community development, and measuring the health of the Internet. Jane will provide a retrospective on the Internet Growth Project Teams, her various experiences with people around the world and how they worked on closing the digital divide. WINS is co-organized by PCARI PRIME and PHNOG.

First there is a presentation from curriculum consultant Ashley Gavin followed by a Q&A with a panel of NYC girl computer science students. Saturday March 8 is International #womensday – @InternetSociety is celebrating Women in Tech

International Women's DayThis Saturday, March 8 2014, is International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is “Equality for women is progress for all”. To mark the occasion Internet Society President & CEO Kathy Brown, and Trustees Desiree Miloshevic, Theresa Swinehart and Narelle Clark, have posted Weaving Women of the World into the Global Tapestry of Modern Digital Life an article around the importance of women in ICT. The article highlights several initiatives across the ISOC community that support women interested in technology careers and bring Internet access and training to women around the world.

Here at ISOC-NY we actively support local organizations who actively recruit girls into computer science, such as the New York City Foundation for Computer Science Education (CSNYC) and Girls Who Code. We have also lent international assistance to the ITU’s Tech Needs Girls campaign.
