WEBCAST FEB 27 – Beyond Whois: Filling the Gaps

ISOC LIVE

ISOC LIVEOn Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 14:00-15:30 EST (19:00-20:30 UTC) CircleID and the Edgemoor Research Institute host their second stakeholder roundtable with the theme ‘Beyond Whois: Filling the Gaps‘.

The collection and disclosure of DNS registration data have evolved chaotically, influenced by GDPR and other privacy laws. The system, while improving privacy, has enabled bad actors and raised costs for registrars and registries. At this 2nd event, experts will explore Project Jake’s framework for balancing privacy with legitimate data needs, emphasizing policy clarity, efficiency, and adaptability.

The event will open with a fundamental question: “What does ‘good’ look like for domain name registrars?” This inquiry aims to explore the motivating factors—both for and against—the disclosure of registration data.

livestreamThe 2019 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Annual Meeting was held in Washington, DC earlier in February with the theme ‘Science Transcending Boundaries‘. Attendees celebrated three scientific milestones: 1) 150 years ago Dmitri Mendeleev presented the Periodic Table to the Russian Chemical Society; 2) 50 years ago the first moon walk by Neil Armstrong, made possible by Apollo 11’s successful landing on the moon; and 3) the first ARPANET message was sent from the University of California, Los Angeles to the Stanford Research Institute. This early network became the basis for today’s Internet. In the case of the latter two, not only was a large cake cut and distributed, but also a panel convened of original ARPANET researchers/engineers Vint Cerf, Stephen D. Crocker, Robert E. Kahn, Leonard Kleinrock and David Walden. Today, Wednesday 27 February 2019 at 2pm ET (19:00 UTC) the Internet Society Livestream Channel will restream that panel.
