On Tuesday, 8 September 2026, the Atlantic Council‘s Cyber Statecraft Initiative hosted a hybrid public discussion ‘Data Governance for AI and Healthcare: From Washington to Beijing‘ at Atlantic Council Headquarters in Washington DC.

AI is reshaping drug discovery, clinical trials, precision medicine and healthcare delivery, but building and deploying it at scale depends on high-quality data, computing power, energy and digital infrastructure, as well as on navigating fast-moving regulatory requirements. Part of the Cyber Statecraft Initiative’s Data Rules Project, the session brought together leaders from the biosciences industry, government and academia to ask how healthcare and pharmaceutical companies can build AI at scale while protecting patient trust, privacy, security and sustainability, and to weigh how the United States, China and other major technology markets are approaching these questions, and what their differing policy and infrastructure choices mean for pharmaceutical research and development, patient outcomes and US competitiveness.

WEBCAST MAR 19 – Using data for accountability: Lessons learned from the Oversight Board’s impact

ISOC LIVE

ISOC LIVEOn Tuesday March 19, 2024 at 12:00-13:00 EDT (16:00-17:00 UTC) the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) presents ‘Using data for accountability: Lessons learned from the Oversight Board’s impact‘.

As social media regulation comes into force around the world, regulators are increasingly narrowing down on the type of data they need to hold platforms accountable and ensure users are treated fairly.

The Oversight Board, an independent body created by Meta in 2020 to make binding decisions and policy recommendations, has been working for the past two years to create a data-driven approach to hold the company accountable and ensure that users feel the impact of its recommendations. In this discussion, Oversight Board Head of Data & Implementation and DFRLab Non-Resident Fellow Naomi Shiffman presents lessons learned from the Board’s work, followed by a panel discussion.
