IXP-HNThursday & Friday 11/12 August 2016, the IV Regional Forum on Inter-connectivity & Reduction of telecommunication service prices and Internet access cost is being held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. the sessions will discuss, among other things, international interconnection, study cases of national IXP´s implementation in the Region, its benefits, future projects, the role of the regulator, the necessity of international and/or regional interconnection, etc. A webcast is available via the TNHonduras Ustream Channel Honduras is UTC -7 = 2 hours behind NYC. The proceedings will be conducted in Spanish, no English translation.

LivestreamThis week, Wednesday-Friday August 10-12 2016 the 12th Caribbean Internet Governance Forum (CIGF) is taking place in Belize. Organized by the Caribbean Telecomunications Union, this year’s CIGF has the them ‘Accelerating Caribbean Internet Development‘. It will address areas of high priority, including Cybersecurity, CcTLD Operations, Local Digital Content Development, Broadband Access and Affordability, and Net Neutrality. It will focus on establishing national structures to support the work of the CIGF; continue the work of policy development and finalise the Regional Internet Governance Policy Framework (Issue 3.0). The event is being webcast live via the Internet Society Livestream Channel. Belize time runs two hours behind NYC.

Authors Derrick Cogburn, Laura DeNardis, Nanette Levinson, will be joined by Dean James Goldgeier of the AU School of International Service, Jeffrey Rutenbeck of the AU School of Communication, plus special guests Kathy Brown of the Internet Society and Fiona Alexander from the NTIA, to discuss the book. A live webcast from the AU a/v team will be mirrored on the Internet Society Livestream Channel.

ISOC DC Human Rights in IG On Monday 26 January 2015 the Greater Washington DC Chapter of the Internet Society (ISOC-DC) and the Institute of International Economic Policy (IIEP) presented Governments and Internet Governance . Despite their long experience in global and domestic governance, policymakers from many nations struggle to find their way in Internet governance. On one hand, only governments can join international organizations such as the UN or WTO. However, the same governments do not have a privileged role in Internet governance institutions such as the Internet Governance Forum (IGF); the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN); or the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), where governments are just one among many actors. Meanwhile, many other stakeholders are increasingly concerned about increased participation by governments in the technical infrastructure and governance bodies that underpin the Internet. This event will examine several different perspectives on participation by governments in Internet governance.
