On Tuesday 3 August 2021 at 13:00-14:30 UTC the African IXP Association, in partnership with the Internet Society, host ‘Fear to Peer – Post Pandemic, What is the Future of Handshake Peering?‘. The focus of this 11th webinar in the Virtual Peering Series – Africa will be will be on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the organisation of peering forums around the world. We would like to understand how activities such as peering bilaterals and socials, which are usually heavily in-person dependent, will evolve and whether hybrid (in-person and virtual) events would become the new norm. This session will elaborate on the innovative ways peering forums are currently exploring to keep their respective communities engaged. Finally, with little to almost zero face-to-face outreach events, the community building and development activities, around peering, need to be re-invented. The session will discuss the impact of the pandemic on the human network and how this is affecting the operational aspects of peering.

Le mardi 3 août 2021 de 13h00 à 14h30 UTC, l’African IXP Association, en partenariat avec l’Internet Society, accueillera « La peur du peering – qu’adviendra-t-il du poignée de main d’interconnexion en post-pandémie? ». L’objectif de ce 11e webinaire de la série Virtual Peering – Afrique sera mis sur l’impact de la pandémie de COVID-19 sur l’organisation de forums de peering à travers le monde. Nous aimerions comprendre comment des activités telles que les bilatérales et les sociales de peering, qui sont d’habitude fortement dépendantes des rencontres en présentiel, vont désormais évoluer, et si des événements hybrides (combinaison de présentiel et de virtuel) deviendront la nouvelle norme. Enfin, avec peu ou presque pas d’événements de sensibilisation en tête-à-tête, les activités de développement et de renforcement de la communauté, autour du peering, doivent être réinventées. La séance abordera donc l’impact de la pandémie sur le réseau humain et la manière dont cela influence les aspects opérationnels du peering.
