VIDEO: @legalhackNYC – Legal Issues in the #SharingEconomy #legalhack

On November 19 2014 Legal Hackers NYC and Launch LM presented ‘Legal Issues in the Sharing Economy‘ at Joynture NYC. The proliferation of companies rooted in the sharing economy — a socio-economic system built around the sharing of human and physical resources — has been making headlines as Airbnb, Uber, Lyft, and other startups quickly amass users while grappling with laws hostile to their missions. While there is no doubt that sharing economy principles often challenge local regulatory schemes related to health, safety, labor, and taxes, they can also create entrepreneurial opportunities while promoting social good. This panel explores the pros and cons of the sharing economy and the reactions of local governments to these companies’ attempts to either flout, circumvent, or challenge local laws. PANEL: Diana Dellamere, Public Policy Manager, Lyft; Henry Imber, General Manager, onefinestay; Amyt Eckstein, Counsel, Moses & Singer. MODERATOR: Jonathan Askin, Professor, Brooklyn Law School.
