On Tuesday April 26 2022 at 13:30-14:45 CDT (18:30-19:45 UTC) the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), as part of ARIN 49, hosts a panel ‘Why Doesn’t the Internet Migrate Entirely to IPv6?‘. An operator asked the question on an IPv6 Facebook group, “Why Doesn’t the Internet Completely Migrate to IPv6?” The question was posed. Many chimed in. And now we continue the conversation. Opinions on the topic varied from the lack of a favorable cost/benefit analysis to absence of leadership. Is it money concerns? Ignorance? Laziness? Inertia? Malice? No doubt the lack of rapid movement on IPv6 is incredibly frustrating for some and an obvious result of market conditions for others. Still yet, some refuted the premise, and argued the Internet that needs to be on IPv6 is and the rest doesn’t really matter. Let’s discuss. Where are we with IPv6 adoption? And most importantly, why?
