WEBCAST TODAY: COPPA at 20: Protecting Children’s Privacy in the New Digital Era @GtownTechLaw

livestreamToday, Wednesday October 24 2018 at 12:15pm EDT (16:15 UTC) the Georgetown Law’s Institute for Technology Law & Policy will co-host a half-day conference COPPA at 20: Protecting Children’s Privacy in the New Digital Era on the 20-year legacy of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and how to protect children’s privacy in the new digital era. Two decades of digital advances have dramatically changed the ways in which children interact with the internet, and the way big data is collected. How well are COPPA and regulators keeping up with challenges to children’s privacy and wellbeing? What are key questions that remain around the interpretation of the law? And what lessons can COPPA provide around novel approaches to self-regulation, the enforcement landscape and the future of broader privacy regulations? Speakers include FTC Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter and Senator Ed Markey. The event will be simulcast on the Internet Society Livestream Channel.
